The Gear I Use…

This is probably only of interest to other potters, but feel free to keep reading if you’re interested.

I have two pottery wheels that I use, and I typically divide them up between white or light clay colors and dark clay colors. For my black or brown clay bodies I use a Shimpo VL Whisper. I have no particular reason for using this one for darker clay bodies except that it’s just what I happened to use the clay on first. It was my first real pottery wheel, but it wasn’t quite what I was looking for. Originally I was looking for a Pacifica pottery wheel, but the place I bought it made a mistake and sold me something they didn’t have in stock. As an alternative, they offered the Shimpo at the same price.

My second pottery wheel is a Pacifica GT800 which I found available on Facebook when I got my first kiln. I found a guy selling a Cress kiln that was in excellent shape. I wasn’t really looking for a second wheel, but he made me a good deal for the pair. I used the Cress kiln for a while and eventually re-sold it to another new potter. It was a nice little kiln, but I wanted something with digital controls.

My Kiln is an L&L E23T-3, and while I haven’t YET fired it, I’m already impressed with the quality of it.
